What I am watching and reading

Watching
When I take time out of my jobs to feed my muse I am watching Battle Star Galactica - which I am enjoying. But I have also discovered a UK series called Being Human. It is about a vampire, werewolf and a ghost living in a house together, trying to hang onto their humanity and come to terms with what they are. While our vampire is "on the wagon" so to speak, other's of his kind are preparing for a war. If you get a chance, check it out.

Reading
I am reading Vicki Pettersson's The Scent of Shadows and I am loving it. The story is rocking along, I love the heroine Joanne Archer and her ex-boyfreind Ben Traina. It is full of twists and turns and surprises, I am constanlty say - "No way - I can't believe that just happened". The setting is great -- in fact Las Vegas is almost another character in the book. you can almost hear the city breathing in the words on the page. Love it.

What are you reading or watching at the moment?

Seven Months to R-Day

It is now just 7 months until Night's Cold Kiss, the first in the Dark Brethren series , will be released with EOS books.

I am busily working away on book two and just about to go to my first convention as an (almost) published author. I am attending the inaugural ARRC09 and will be on a panel with some fantastic authors.

So in my 7 month countdown to R-Day I am going to talk about all the things I love about Urban Fantasy, Sci Fi and Fantasy. Movies, books, comic. anything I come across and love.

So join me on my wild fantastic journey.

SOLD !!!!!!!

It has taken me a few weeks to build up the courage to write this post. I've kept expecting to wake up from this dream I was having.

But it isn't a dream that I need to wake up from - it is the dream I've wanted to live for the last few years. The dream of a being a published author.

Now I get to live that dream with a 3 book deal to Eos Books at Harper Collins.

Yes!!!!!!

Vincent O'hara: 01 Dec 2007 - 21 July 2008

This is so not writing related but I have to get this off my chest. I lost my beautiful little ball of insanity, namely my darling 8 month old kitten Vincent.

We fostered a family of cats to help save them from being destroyed. He had been abandoned at 1 day old with his sister who who, unfortunately, didn't make it. The mother cat we were fostering had 5 two week old female kittens herself, but allowed him to feed as well.

So this tiny little ebony bundle came to us when he was about a week old with his foster mum and sisters. He'd been attacked by something, losing half a tail and his left ear (which is why we called him Vincent). He was so black it was hard to get a photo of him. He was a shadow with eyes, dark matter my husband called him. It was like he absorbed the light around him.

Because the other kittens were older, they didn't have to feed as much him, so when they weren't feeding, mother puss wouldn't let our little guy feed either. We comp-fed him with a bottle and some special formula. And he thrived. When the rest of the family went to other homes, we kept Vincent and his 'sister' Sweetums. With our other 2 grown cats, Crispin and Charlie, we had a great additions to out furry family members.

But yesterday he was taken away. His nine lives ran out. Vincent was a home cat - barely going outside other than to relieve himself. We were going to get him de-sexed next month, this month was his sister's turn. For some reason he decided to jump into the yard that belonged to a family with a malamute. When the dog came over to investigate, instead of running like he usually would, Vincent confronted the dog and swiped him. The dog reacted and picked him up and shook him. The owner apparently rushed him to the vets, but he was already gone. I don't blame the dog, he was doing what was natural to him, just as Vincent way. I also feel sorry for the dog's poor owner who cared enough to take him to the vet.

But now the smile in my day is missing. My shadow with big green eyes has gone away forever. His beautiful soft body will never rub against my calf when I try to get out of bed in the morning and he will never again wait for me to get close before teasing me by running away. He will never run up the hall chasing his sister, or up the cat climbing pole either. He will never curl up at my feet on the bed or sit in his box beside the fire. For eight months I was lucky to have had him in my life. Now he is gone but the heroine in my latest WIP has just gained another pet - a midnight black cat with half a tail and only one ear by the name of Vincent.

(Vincent at a few weeks old)

(having a big yawn with is furry 'brother' and 'sister')

Goodbye Vincent, my crazy little monkey.

my first sale

I have made my first sale to Harlequin Spice Briefs in a 2 story deal. I will be publishing under a pseudonym. I am very excited and very pleased. It is like being swepted up in a whirlwind of excitment.
